The story beggins in Leominster, Massachusetts when John Chapman was born. John Chapman had a huge heart and always cared for others. After the pass of his mother, John came up with the idea that if there were more apple trees around the world the entire country could eat! After that, John traveled on foot - making friends and giving gifts of apple trees along the way to anyone on his path. After a few years of John travel he began to be known as Johnny Aplleseed. He would help suffering people and animals - his story grew and grew and Johnny became "one of the most famous men in America" . Johnny even was known for helping the most vicious animals - he would train snakes, bears and even his pet Brother Wolf. At the end, readers see the large amount of trees that he has planted and we see a family return the favor of hospitatlity back to him. There he taught everyone that these apples were not his - they were Americas.

Classroom Application: This book is a good book for children to read about. With this folk tale you could ask students to find other versions of the traditional literature. It is a good book to look at to discuss this genre as well!
